Birdhouse Decoupage + Crackle

Namaste crafters!

It's summertime..so let's make cute birdhouses for the birds to rest in this summer!

This time on my trip to the Itsy Bitsy store, I saw these amazing birdhouses in all sizes and amazing designs..I just couldn't control myself and ended up buying tons of these..they are just too adorable and pretty!!

Let's have a step by step look at how I created them!

Its complete video will also be uploaded soon next week..just some editing left :)

For all the birdhouses, I have primed them with 2 layers of gesso.

  • Paint the base with white chalk/acrylic paint.
  • Let it dry.

  • Put a layer of 1 step crackle medium from Itsy Bitsy.
  • Apply thick layer for thicker cracks and thin layer for thinner cracks.
  • Let it dry naturally.
  • You can dry it with a heat tool as well but natural drying gives your project better cracks.

I have used crackle mediums of many companies but I personally feel that the 1 step crackle from Itsy Bitsy is just too good..it always, always gives wonderful crackle effect no matter whatever weather I use it in..it is actually a treasure for me :D

  • When dry, apply a layer of red colour..I used red as it goes with the decopauge napkin I have used..and let the magic begin!!
  • As it dries, you will see the wonderful cracks appearing..just how soothing and satisfying it is to see those cracks!!

  • Next use only the topmost layer of the Decoupage napkin.
  • Remove the other 2 layers very carefully.

  • Position the napkin as per your choice.
  • Apply a thin layer of Decoupage glue from Itsy Bitsy and carefully put the napkin on top.
  • Smooth it out with the sponge.

  • Similarly cover the complete birdhouse.
  • Remove any excess with the help of the 80 number sand paper.

  • Put 1 more layer of Decoupage glue after the first layer has dried.
  • When dry, varnish it with a layer of Itsy Bitsy varnish..this varnish is perfect for almost all your craft projects as it dries very quickly and is stick free!
  • Put 1 more layer of varnish after 20-25 minutes when the 1 St layer dries.

I have put 2 coats because it will be kept in my garden so the layers of varnish will protect it.

And your birdhouse is ready for the birds!!

Similarly I put decouapged the other 2 cute, little birdhouses and coloured with paints matching my napkin!

I love how the pink one turned out..so cute and pretty!

Thank you for stopping by..enjoy creating colourful, pretty birdhouses..don't forget to tune in to our YouTube channel next week for the full VIDEO TUTORIAL.

Christmas tree ornaments

Namaste crafters! It's December..so it's all about Christmas! Today I am on Craftyscrappers blog showing how to create shimmery, christmas-y tree ornaments with the newly launched shimmer pastes. Take the mdf cut outs of the ornaments. For the Xmas tree I applied the Christmas tree shimmer paste with my finger and applied the Granular paste just at the edges to give me snow effect...this granular paste has to perfect snowy consistency and looks very pretty. Similarly I applied Jungle bells shimmer paste on the star ornament, stamped, coloured and fussy cut the reindeer from "let it snow" stamp set and foam mounted it in the middle. For the stocking, I applied Poinsettle shimmer paste and sprinkled Summer mango and It's a boy sequins on it while it was wet and lightly dabbed it so that it gets embedded into the paste. For the reindeer I mixed the Pinewood and jingle bells shimmer paste and applied it on the surface. I stamped ...
